As you may know, the future of the pool project is in doubt because the School Governors have decided to withdraw their support. We are meeting with representatives of the Governors on 22nd March to discuss their concerns and to attempt to reverse their decision.
So far, with your support, Copmanthorpe Sink or Swim has raised over £6,000, and you have pledged over £1,450, towards a current estimated cost of £500K. We realise this is a large sum to raise, and we hope that much of it will come from grants once the funders are open to applications from non-COVID-related projects. We are also investigating ways of reducing costs by, for example, seeking in-kind donations for building materials.
need to demonstrate the strength of local support. So, we are collecting
Pledges for future donations to the pool. Pledges will only be collected if the
Project does continue, at which time we’ll be in touch to check the amount
and explain how to make your donation. This isn’t likely to happen until after
all the COVID-19 restrictions have ended. If you are considering making a
contribution to the pool, please do it now before it is too late.
The Copmanthorpe community came together to get the pool built. We need to do so again to stop it from being lost. Thank you.
We have started a crowdfunding site, which will be open for the next eight weeks. Please support us if you can, and share this as widely as possible. Thank you

We have a good number of responses, but we need more – please could everyone complete the survey, if you haven’t already done so. Every person in the household can complete the survey. We particularly need responses from retired people and young adults.
The prize draw event will no longer take place, but there is still the opportunity to win a prize. We hope you are all staying safe and well. Thank you for your support.
We have had lots of responses so far, but we need more. The survey can be completed by everyone – not just one person per household, so please encourage partners, children, parents and grandparents to complete it. Everyone who completes the survey will have the chance to enter a prize draw.
The pool will be open to everyone, and we hope to have activities for people who are retired, as well as parents, working people, people with disabilities, and children. There will also be the opportunity for private hire, if you prefer to swim only with close friends or family.
You may see us out and about with the surveys over the coming weeks, as we try to meet our quota! Thank you for your continuing support.
Copmanthorpe WI has raised an amazing £260, for Sink or Swim, from their pate and pancake lunch. Thank you so much to everyone who organised, helped and attended the event.
A reminder – please everyone complete our survey – we need lots of responses. Thank you.
Just a brief update. The focus groups provided some useful feedback, and we are now in the process of producing the survey – as soon as this is live we will post the link…
The WI are holding a Shrove Tuesday, pate and pancake lunch to raise funds for Sink or Swim. This will be on Tuesday 25th February, from 12 to 2pm, at the WI hall. Tickets are £5 and can be purchased at the door.
A reminder that this week, we are holding two focus groups to gain feedback to support our funding applications. These focus groups will help to design a survey, as well as providing feedback. Please attend the groups, and complete the survey when it is available. The focus groups are this Friday and Saturday – Friday 7th February, from 4 to 5.30pm, and Saturday 8th February, from 10 to 11.30am, at the Methodist Church Hall. If you can let us know if you are coming (and would like food), it will help with catering, but you can just turn up too. Everyone welcome, including children.
The January lottery draw has taken place and the winning numbers are: first prize, number 204; second prize, number 102; and third prize, number 42. Congratulations to these winners. We are changing the payment process for renewals and new tickets, but this will still be accessed via our website. Thank you for your continued support.
We hope you all had a great Christmas break, and we wish everyone a happy and successful new year.
The December bonus draw has taken place, and the winning numbers are: £100 bonus – ticket number 121; first prize – ticket number 25; second prize – ticket number 67; and third prize – ticket number 49. Congratulations to all these winners. We have now been running the lottery for a full year and it has contributed significantly to our funds. All those whose tickets have expired should have received an email request to renew. We are setting up a new payment system, which should be live on our website within the next month. Thank you for all your support.
As a brief update, at our last two meetings, we gained several new members and we set up subgroups for writing grant applications, conducting a survey of the village, and dealing with legal and contract details. The first meetings of these subgroups are due to take place this month and progress reports will follow soon after.
